Recently the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration bestowed a five-star overall rating, their highest honor, on the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The all-new minivan adds this accolade alongside the Top Safety Pick+ designation it received from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
In developing the minivan’s body structure, Chrysler conducted more than 8,500 simulated crashes as well as 80 full-impact crashes. Eventually more than a dozen different grades of steel were used in the body, with high-strength steel accounting for nearly three-quarters of the structure and more than one-third is advanced high-strength steel.
The Pacifica earned the highest rating possible in each of the NHTSA’s crash tests, including frontal collision and both two-vehicle side-impact and side impact simulating a single vehicle colliding with a pole. The minivan earned a superior rating for its frontal crash mitigation system, and a rating of good in roof strength, head restraint and other evaluations.
